Trigger points

Are the places in your skeletal muscle where tension builds up, causing tenderness and sometimes pain. They are often referred to as "knots". The two basic types of trigger points are as follows: active and latent. An active trigger point will cause muscular pain and, when pressure is applied, may refer the pain to another part of the body. For example, some trigger points in the back will direct pain and discomfort up the neck and into the head, sometimes causing headaches and/or migraines. Latent trigger points however, will only display pain when pressurized, and will not send pain to other areas of the body.

Did you know....?

That the reason all of your hard work in the gym makes the muscles in your body bigger, is because lifting weights actually creates thousands of micro tears in the muscles: hence the soreness the next day!! The muscles then have to be rebuilt, and it is this process of rebuilding that generates larger muscles over time, as they adapt to larger weights.
